FAQ’s

Super 8 is an 8mm wide analogue film that we load into a slow-frame, hand-held film camera. It’s the classic home movie medium, dreamy, nostalgic, and tactile. Instead of hyper-real, Super 8 film is soft-focus and has a natural film grain. It’s kind of like the Polaroid of the film world.

Yep, she’s an original. I use a Canon Auto Zoom 518 SV as my main camera, and that model began production in 1971 and continued through to the mid 1980s when super 8 cameras were no longer produced.
All of my Super 8 camera equipment is sourced from—as well as professionally tested, maintained, and serviced by—the trusted Super 8 specialist retailers at Sydney Super 8. They’re incredibly knowledgeable, and in the 10+ years I’ve been shooting Super 8 I haven’t bought from anyone else. It’s a beautiful relationship.

Although the production of Super 8 cameras dropped away in the 1980s, Kodak never stopped making Super 8 film stock. They still make the highest quality analogue film stock to this day, and that’s what your film is shot on.
The film comes in 50ft lengths loaded in a cartridge. The cartridge goes into the back of the camera and then we’re away and shooting. Fun fact, that’s why the video you shoot is called ‘footage’, because originally film was measured, and thought of, in feet.
Once the film has all been shot it’s sent to a professional film lab to be chemically developed (just like film photos) and then scanned at a 2.5K resolution for a beautiful clean digital file that can be edited. I work with Rewind Photo Lab in Sydney for all my developing and scanning.

Whilst Super 8 film itself has a warm and retro aesthetic, it can be used to film absolutely any aesthetic or event. We also happily work alongside any digital photography or videography services you’d like to use. Super 8 film, and our approach to filming, are so unique that we don’t compare or compete.

We are proud to say that we don’t charge a wedding tax. Our charges reflect our skill, years of expertise and costs, not the nature of your event. Our prices are the same whether we’re filming a wedding, mum’s 70th, the big graduation, or just a day in the sun you don’t want to forget.

Yes, we travel. I’m more than happy to hear about your upcoming special moment to discuss travel plans and see how we might be able to help.
